ALL ABOUT SINNERS

What does SINNERS stand for?

SINNERS stands for: Social Insects iN the North-EastRegionS. It is the result of several weeks of intense thinking by Chris Reid, one of the founders of this meeting.

What is the SINNERS meeting for?

There is a high concentration of world class labs in the North-East region of the US working on social insects. The SINNERS meetings are bi-annual informal gatherings to get these labs together to talk about their research. After the great success of the inaugural meeting hosted by the Swarm Lab at NJIT, the second meeting will be occurring this fall, hosted by the Rockefeller University.

Where is this meeting?

The Field Research Center contains 1200 acres of grassy meadows open forest to explore during the breaks. A guided tour will be available during the lunch break, otherwise feel free to explore the site as your sense of adventure dictates!

Please note that fall is tick season, so appropriate personal arachnid deteral spray is recommended.

What will happen at this meeting?

We will play loud music and do the bee dance :-)

More seriously, there will be thirteen 20-minute slots (for talking and questions) for people to present a talk about their lab, a project they are working on, or anything else they wish to present. Any format is acceptable, even multiple presenters if you like, and students to professors can present. Please bring your talk on a USB stick if possible.

There is no internet at the research center, and cell phone reception is limited (depending on carrier). Unfortunately, this means that the google hangouts will not be available for this meeting.

Breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.

At the end of the presentations,  we will head to the local watering hole for continued discussion over dinner and drinks.

Saturday Workshops

As a new feature of this SINNERS meeting, optional workshops will be offered to meeting participants on the Saturday morning at the field center. If you would like to host a workshop, let us know when you register (deadline for workshop hosting is August 30th). We will provide rooms, powerpoint resources and tea/coffee for all workshops. Lunch will also be provided afterwards for all workshop participants.
